Alexander Wang Rockie Bag in Oyster

I loved the Alexander Wang Rocco. It has such a classic, unpretentious shape and was the perfect combination of laid-back and casual yet glamorous with its rows of metal studs. The pebbled leather paired with the gleaming studs was effortlessly cool and luxe. This bag is the epitome of what I aspire to be...yet never am (those candid shots of models toting it around don't help either).

Only problem (and this problem was echoed by girls everywhere): the studs weighed the bag down, compromising its shape and rendering the bag incredibly heavy at the same time.

And when I laid eyes on the Alexander Wang Rockie, I HAD TO HAVE IT.
It's essentially a baby Rocco, at least half the size of the original and with a U-shaped zip opening, yet retaining the classic studded bottom and rugged leather features. I pored over numerous websites, drooled over the bags in person, and finally I bit the bullet.

Meet my Rockie in Oyster!
I actually ordered the bag from Neiman Marcus online in the shade Dark Argon, but they've mixed it up and sent me the same bag in Oyster. I know I should be furious, especially because international returns would be a huge hassle, but it turns out that I adore this smokey taupe shade. I already have several bags in varying shades of blue, and this neutral grey is a welcome change to the mix. Happy mistake.

I've read that the U-shaped opening of the bag creates problems for the zipper, but I've experienced nothing of that sort so far. I don't think the bag is particularly heavy, and I can fit everything I need in there, thanks to the nugget-like fat silhouette. I was afraid that the Rocco/Rockie would be a passing fad since Alexander Wang doesn't seem to have a signature bag, but I've noticed that he keeps making these bags in different colours, so hopefully this bag will stick around.

Highly recommended!

  1. Hi, I use to love the Rocco too but I think the Rockie is so much better because of the size and weight. I was just wondering, how long have you had the bag for/used it for? I would like to know if it the roundish shape of the bag lasts or does it lose it's shape (like it's predecessor) and become flatter and rectangular shaped?
