MAC Girlie: Pinkeye in a Pan

One question: is there any type of makeup that you cannot wear? I, for example, avoid teals and bright colours but I was always thought I could pull off all neutrals. Until today.

I found an old pot of MAC eyeshadow in "Girlie" and was so excited (so many highschool memories!) that I had to put it on today. Girlie is a satin-finish slightly mauve/medium neutral pink  And then I realized...

Only 'Girlie' on. It looks rather faint here but I did apply it with a heavy hand. 

I kind of look like I have pink eye. Do you see the pink tinge at the ends of my eye? I promise it's not swelling! What do you think? I realize Girlie is quite popular so I might be the only person with this problem... maybe it's my skintone? But are there any colours you can't wear?
